A number of diagnostic capabilities are available at the MIT co-center. The CLASS accelerator provides a source for a variety of ion beam analysis techniques, such as Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS) and Nuclear Reaction Analysis (NRA). Also, the DIONISOS facility, when used in conjunction with CLASS, provides the unique ability to perform real-time analysis of a surface as it is exposed to an incident plasma. In addition to diagnostics, the MIT co-center's facilities also enable researchers to implant depth markers in surfaces for the purpose of studying surface erosion in different plasma environments.
